"Only a top player can be an outstanding designer". After meeting energetic Simon Oxenham, it is very easy to relate him to the extreme sports. For Simon, the role of extreme sports fan is more important than the role of a designer.

"I have been designing extreme sports theme park for 10 years," said Simon, "but I have been an extreme sports fan for over 30 years now". Simon still takes part in the extreme sports twice a week these days and he was once a very competitive extreme sports athlete in Australia. "If I had not been a keen extreme sports athlete, it would have been very difficult for me to design top level parks".

In Simon's team, he has 40 designers who are all passionate about extreme sports. The Convic Design team is one of the most famous extreme sports park designers in the world. It has designed more than 300 parks. In Simon's opinion, Malaysia national skatepark is a quite good one.

"But this park of Shanghai is definitely the most impressive one". Simon recollected that he was amazed when he first heard about this project. "You have to know that extreme sports were not popular in China and there had never been a skate park in the country. I thought they were joking."

After studying in detail the plan of New Jiangwan City development, Simon decided to realize his greatest design dream here. Soon after that, he and 39 of his other team members started to design New Jiangwan City SMP Skatepark.

"I was told that the best sports facility in Shanghai is the F1 Race Course, it has created many No 1 records for the world" Simon said, "the park we are designing will create many world No 1's in this area much like the Shangahi F1 Race Course".

According to Simon, the construction started in April this year and has completed its basic form after 5 months. "As we are very passionate about extreme sports, we are trying to get more people to take part in those sports as early as possible. We will definitely have a skate in the park ourselves when it is completed."
